So we – me and a couple million other people – have been waiting and posting and waiting and posting about April The Giraffe.  When will April finally have her baby?  The arrival of her baby giraffe has become the obsession of online viewers, office pools and millions of lost productivity at workplaces across America.

And While we were looking north – April is at a zoo in New York – the folks right here in Houston delivered on a promised baby giraffe.

Tuesday, without a ton of fanfare or webcam,  the Houston Zoo announced that a baby Masai giraffe was born.   Zoo officials said labor lasted around two hours, after a pregnancy of just over a year.

According to the Houston Chronicle, “The mother, Tyra, and the newborn are currently bonding behind closed doors at the zoo with keepers and veterinarians keeping tabs on them. Typically newborn giraffes weigh around 150 pounds and stand six feet tall.”

The answer to your question “WHEN CAN WE SEE IT”?

Houston Zoo says the new baby should be on display within a few days, according to zoo staff. As the video below shows the new baby still needs some practice walking.

As you can see in the video below the giraffe is still getting the hang of walking.

SO TAKE THAT APRIL!  While New Yorkers Wait – Houston Delivers!
